Team Castle Water attended the Tayside Business Fives football tournament on Friday at Soccerworld in Dundee. The team consisted of myself, Ross Tavendale, Alistair McLaren, Stephen Dixon, Michael Delpippo, Michael Wilson, Stephan Law and Blair Kinmont.
It was a fantastic event, and very well organised. There were 18 teams taking part from businesses around Tayside, Angus and Perthshire.
We were drawn into a group with W M Donald, GS Group, Caltech Lifts and Tag Games and we won 3 out of the 4 games. This qualified us for the quarter-finals of the Europa League Cup.
The quarter-final saw Castle Water take on A G Barr. It was an extremely close game that finished 2-2 and went on to sudden death penalties. Stefan going first for Castle Water, excellently tucking it away into the corner. A G Barr’s star player stepped up and I saved the ball by diving down to the left. Castle Water were going to the semi-final!
Next up were MTC Media, with the winners of this match through to the final. We won 3-1.
E Q Accountants were our opponents in the final and with their younger, fitter players, they won 4-2. It was one game too many for Castle Water and we just didn’t have the legs to perform like we had in previous rounds. Massive congratulations to E Q Accountants, they thoroughly deserved their victory.
Everyone representing Castle Water at the event were fantastic and gave their all. Notable highlights were Stephen Dixon scoring a hat-trick, and Stefan Law running riot against all teams. Special mention for Stefan who finished as Castle Water’s top goal scorer.
After the games, we were treated to a Q&A session with former Scottish International Lee Wilkie, who talked about his illustrious career.
Overall it was a fantastic day, with players from all businesses mixing and networking whilst promoting being active through playing football. There was a lot of excellent football on display and all played in good spirits and all for some brilliant causes.
