Castle Water CEO comments on the newly opened water market.

This month, Castle Water’s CEO, John Reynolds, spoke to Robert Lea, Industrial Editor at The Times, about the newly liberalised water market. Commenting on the market, John noted that rather than the multiple water retailers that were envisaged, there is a danger of non-household water suppliers consolidating into a “big four”, warning readers about how competition amongst a new generation of water retailers to win market share could lead to doorstep mis-selling.

On the emergence of a big four, he said:

There will inevitably be further consolidation and we will be an active consolidator. The Scottish market has been a bit of 'Wild West' market, with new independent retailers using commission-only doorstep selling techniques and making undeliverable promises, which I fear is now beginning to happen in the English market.
