Promoting the best examples from the world of books, this year’s BOOKMARK Festival offers an engaging mix of household names as well as up-and-coming new authors; from prize-winners to entertaining newcomers.
Sponsored by Castle Water, this first BOOKMARK reading welcomes two iconic people to open the Festival. Ali Smith’s award-winning novels and essays have put her firmly at the top of an international ladder of major writers. In conversation with Scotland’s First Minister and avid reader, Nicola Sturgeon, this is an unmissable opportunity to hear the dazzling inventiveness of a writer Sebastian Barry describes as ‘Scotland’s Nobel Laureate-in-waiting’.
Gail Wylie, Chairperson for BOOKMARK, said:
“We’re delighted that Castle Water is supporting this year’s Festival. We arrange events throughout the year including for local schools. Through BOOKMARK, readers of all ages can meet, listen to and question writers from across all genres of literature from novelists, historians, and poets to journalists and biographers. Support from sponsors such as Castle Water serves as a testament to the quality of the Festival and the work that BOOKMARK carries out.”
Castle Water CEO, John Reynolds OBE, said:
“We’re pleased to support the BOOKMARK Festival which raises the profile of books and the joys of reading. This complements Castle Water’s partnership with Blairgowrie High School and our initiatives to enrich and enhance education, particularly through promoting the level of literacy that employers need. Through our education outreach programme, and in supporting national initiatives such as Developing Young Workforce, we aim to improve the recruitment potential and preparedness of young people for life after school. This is a big part of our commitment to the local communities in which we operate.”
The BOOKMARK Festival runs from 4 to 6 October 2019. To find out more visit www.bookmarkblair.com or the BOOKMARK Facebook page.
