Motherwell FC Case Study

Motherwell FC saves more than 6k in first year following switch

Motherwell FC has scored significant financial savings on its business water costs with over £6,400 safely in the net following the initial twelve months of a three-year deal with Castle Water, the UK’s leading independent business water supplier.

The savings, which were realised as part of a sustainability and cost reduction drive at Motherwell FC’s Fir Park Stadium, can now be pumped back into the club’s future development and redirected towards vital community work.

“We anticipated that we’d enjoy some financial gains but didn’t imagine for a minute that we’d save over £6,400, compared to standard rates, in just twelve months. This is an amazing result for Motherwell FC with further savings to be gained with Castle Water going forward.”

Dedicated account management and tailored services

At Castle Water, it is important to anticipate customer needs and to offer specialist water management services and back-up supplies on demand.

Castle Water CEO and Founder, John Reynolds OBE explains,

“We work with many business customers to help them realise efficiency savings and to drive their future sustainability. Our customers benefit from specialist advice and innovative services all at a more competitive rate. Motherwell FC sought our help to reduce water consumption and to cut costs at Fir Park Stadium. We agreed a competitive, tailored service for the Club and it’s great to see that they are now reaping the rewards. We are delighted to work collaboratively with Motherwell FC and look forward to providing our ongoing support. It’s particularly rewarding to know that these significant financial savings can now be reinvested into the club’s worthwhile community projects while making a positive impact on people’s lives.”

Smart water management

Following consultation with Motherwell FC and data collection on site, Castle Water installed smart metering technology to monitor the club’s water use profile. This quickly identified irregularities with Fir Park Stadium’s water consumption. Castle Water helped the club to identify solutions and to put in place an immediate action plan to reduce water use and cut costs.

Realising the bigger picture of water cost savings

Good water management creates opportunity not only for true water cost savings but also for other associated savings, including the costs of embodied energy and other resource efficiency impacts.

Alan Burrows, Motherwell FC Chief Operating Officer said:

“Water is vital here at Fir Park. It’s essential for regular pitch watering, for matches and events, and for general club use.

“Like all costs, managing our water bills is essential in securing the future of Motherwell FC. Switching to Castle Water was very straightforward. We now enjoy a competitive and responsive service. We worked with the company’s water efficiency experts who have helped us to significantly reduce water consumption at the stadium.

“We anticipated that we’d enjoy some financial gains but didn’t imagine for a minute that we’d save over £6,400, compared to standard rates, in just twelve months. This is an amazing result for Motherwell FC with further savings to be gained with Castle Water going forward.”
