Ann Brown, Metering Team Coordinator, tells us about her career so far at Castle Water

My role as a Metering Team Coordinator is varied and challenging, but ultimately rewarding. When I first joined the Metering Team, my main responsibility was to make sure customer accounts, and the business water market, were updated with correct meter readings. This ensures correct billing for both the customer and for us as a retailer.

For the past year, I have focused on mentoring new team members, providing them with the support and training required for their role in the Metering Team. I believe sharing knowledge is key to a successful team and we in metering are all about teamwork. Alongside this, I also work with our Settlements Team, ensuring the meter readings in the business water market are correct.

I joined Castle Water with no prior experience in the water industry. However, I have 20 years’ experience in customer services as an Advisor, Team Leader, and Business Support Advisor. This has helped me gain skills I could transfer from retail to utilities. Regardless of the industry, ultimately, we are all here to do the best job for our customers.


The initial induction was very informative as we were given an insight into how the different departments work. My training  has helped me gain the knowledge and confidence I need in my current role. There are numerous training courses available, from brushing up on excel, to department specific courses.

Opportunity to progress

If you have the desire to progress and show a willingness to take on extra duties there are opportunities within Castle Water, whether it be progressing to management or taking on a more senior role within your team.

Team dynamic

The Metering Team are all about teamwork. We all have our different personalities and strengths, which when combined, make for good teamwork and a great service provided to our customers.

Hybrid working

Initially, hybrid working seemed a bit strange, however, many teams within the business organised daily calls on Teams to help keep us connected. The mix of office and homeworking is going well. I appreciate how Castle Water has accommodated the needs of their employees at such a difficult time.
