Supporting career growth and employee development at Castle Water

We believe that career development and continued education should go hand in hand. By investing in our people and creating opportunities to learn and progress we support employees in building long-term careers while gaining their qualifications and experience needed to succeed.

Creating opportunities through apprenticeships, graduate apprenticeships, internal progression, and professional development programmes is an important part of our commitment to helping employees grow their careers while continuing their education.

Ellis’ apprentice journey

Ellis joined Castle Water in 2021 through an apprenticeship programme, beginning her career while gaining valuable workplace experience and developing industry knowledge in a real business environment. After successfully completing her apprenticeship, Ellis continued her development by enrolling onto a Graduate Apprenticeship in Business Management in 2022 – allowing her to continue studying while building a full-time career at Castle Water. Now in her fourth year of university and due to graduate this November, Ellis has spent the last several years balancing her education alongside a full-time role – combining academic learning with practical business experience and demonstrating how education and career progression can work together.

Supporting employees to continue their education while developing professionally is an important part of how we invest in our people. Employees enrolled in the Graduate Apprenticeship programme attend university one day each week while continuing to gain hands-on experience in the workplace. Alongside this, Castle Water provides dedicated study time during working hours and ongoing support from managers and mentors to help employees balance university commitments with their professional development. By supporting apprentices and graduate apprentices throughout their studies, we help make continued education more accessible and achievable.

This approach enables Graduate Apprentices to apply the knowledge gained through their degree directly into their day-to-day responsibilities while building confidence, developing leadership skills, and gaining practical experience that supports long-term career growth. Through an internal vacancy opportunity, Ellis transitioned into the Marketing team, creating an opportunity to apply her Business Management degree in a new environment while continuing to develop her skills and gain practical experience. Her journey reflects Castle Water’s commitment to employee development, internal career progression, apprenticeships, graduate opportunities, and supporting employees to build meaningful long-term careers.

Reflecting on her experience, Ellis said:

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities Castle Water has given me throughout my journey. Being supported to continue my education while working full time has allowed me to gain practical experience alongside my degree while continuing to progress my career. Balancing university and work can be challenging at times, but having the support to continue learning and develop professionally has made such a difference. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited to graduate later this year and continue growing my career at Castle Water.”

At Castle Water, we know that investing in people creates stronger careers, stronger teams, and a stronger business. By supporting apprenticeships, graduate development, continuous learning, and internal career opportunities, we help employees unlock their potential and build successful careers.
