Castle Water Team Raise Over £3.4k for the Army Benevolent Fund at the Cateran Yomp

Castle Water is proud to celebrate the achievements of colleagues Peter Strain, Kevin McIntyre and Fergus Sandison, who successfully completed the Cateran Yomp and raised £3,401 for the Army Benevolent Fund.

As a longstanding sponsor and supporter of the event, our involvement in the Cateran Yomp goes beyond fundraising. Each year, we help provide drinking water throughout the route, ensuring thousands of participants can stay hydrated while taking on one of the UK’s toughest endurance challenges. The Cateran Yomp, held annually in the Scottish Highlands, raises vital funds for the Army Benevolent Fund, which supports soldiers, veterans and their families.

Supporting participants every step of the way

Hydration is a critical part of any endurance event, and we are proud to play an important role in helping Yompers safely complete the challenge. By supporting the event’s water provision, Castle Water helps ensure participants have access to fresh drinking water at key points along the route, enabling them to stay hydrated while navigating the demanding 54-mile course.

Taking on the challenge

This year, our colleagues Peter Strain, Kevin McIntyre and Fergus Sandison stepped up to experience the challenge for themselves, raising an impressive £3,401 for the Army Benevolent Fund.

Following months of training and preparation, the trio joined thousands of participants on the route through the Perthshire countryside, tackling steep climbs, challenging terrain and overnight walking conditions.

For Peter, one moment summed up the scale of the achievement:

“Being in sight of the finish, 53 and three quarters miles completed at 01:35 on Sunday morning, and then watching my pedometer beep to say, ‘Well done, you have done 10,000 steps!’ It had reset at midnight!”

Kevin reflected on the training required to prepare for the challenge:

“After weeks and weeks of training walks or DIY and painting in the new house – when I crossed the finish line on Saturday, B&Q looked a much more favourable proposal!”

Fergus described the experience as both physically demanding and incredibly rewarding:

“Completing the Yomp was definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but such an incredible experience and a super rewarding challenge to take on. I couldn’t have done it without my partner and our incredible support team. It was worth all the pain, and I’m looking forward to doing it all again next year.”

A partnership that makes a difference

Castle Water is committed to supporting initiatives that create a positive impact for communities across the UK. Through its ongoing partnership with the Cateran Yomp and support for the Army Benevolent Fund, the company is proud to contribute to an event that raises vital funds while bringing people together through a shared sense of purpose.

The dedication shown by Peter, Kevin and Fergus demonstrates the values that underpin Castle Water’s culture – teamwork, resilience and a commitment to making a difference.
