Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week

Growing at Castle Water

Scottish Apprenticeship Week highlights how apprenticeships at Castle Water are an important part of our commitment to supporting young people transition from education into a future career. Through hands-on experience, mentorship and recognised qualifications, our apprenticeship programmes allow individuals to earn while they learn while gaining valuable experience in the workplace.

Creating Opportunities Through Apprenticeships

For many school leavers, choosing the next step after education can feel uncertain. Apprenticeships offer a practical and supportive pathway into a professional career, combining work-based learning with expert training. Castle Water’s apprenticeship programmes are designed for young people aged 16–24 and provide opportunities across areas such as business administration, customer service and IT. Apprentices will work alongside experienced colleagues, while studying towards an SVQ qualification, gaining both technical knowledge and transferable workplace skills.

Learning on the Job

Keiran our Business Administration apprentice stated: “I’ve really enjoyed the fact that you get to learn about a new career while also getting a qualification. It makes a big difference learning on the job instead of just from a book or reading off a screen.”

Working in a fast-paced business environment has also helped him develop important professional skills -“During my time here, I’ve learned how to communicate professionally and efficiently. The role requires you to use knowledge across different areas, and you quickly learn how to work in a fast-paced environment.”

Jazmin, another Business Administration Apprentice, says the variety of systems and experiences she has encountered has helped her develop new skills quickly: “I’ve enjoyed learning all the different systems and getting to speak with lots of people who have different experiences.”

Ensuring a Supportive environment

A key part of any successful apprenticeship programme is the support apprentices receive from their teams. Jazmin stated how having a supportive team structure has helped her settle into the role and stay on track while learning: “My team has been great. Having a billing buddy has really helped keep me on track while learning new things.”

Harley explains that learning from others across the team has been a major part of his development as a Business Admin Apprentice: “My team has been incredibly supportive by providing guidance, constructive feedback and encouragement. They’ve taken the time to explain tasks clearly, answer my questions, and involve me in discussions so I can learn from their experience.”

Investing in Future Talent

By offering apprenticeships in Scotland that combine practical experience with structured learning, Castle Water helps individuals develop the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to succeed in their careers. 96% of Modern Apprenticeship graduates in Scotland say they would recommend an apprenticeship to others, highlighting the positive impact work-based learning can have on building skills and starting a career. As Scottish Apprenticeship Week reminds us, investing in apprentices today helps build a stronger workforce for tomorrow.
