Pay as You Go (PAYG)

A Pay as You Go (PAYG) account enables you to pay for your water and wastewater services as you use them meaning you'll never pay more than you owe.

How does it work?

  1. You provide a meter reading online or we will read your meter for you
  2. We provide you with an accurate bill based on your latest reading
  3. You pay your bill within 14 days of receiving it

Am I eligible for PAYG?

PAYG is available for existing Castle Water customers in England with premises in the Thames Water, South East Water, Portsmouth Water and Affinity Water areas. You can request a PAYG account if:

  • You have a metered supply
  • You agree to provide regular meter readings or request that we take the readings for you
  • There is no outstanding debt on your existing account

Please note, PAYG is not available to customers with an unmetered supply, who require trade effluent services, or who have previously signed up to a cashback agreement with Castle Water. Terms and conditions apply.

Register your interest for a PAYG account

To request a new PAYG account, please follow the steps provided below:

  1. Please ensure you have paid all outstanding bills on your existing account. Click here for ways to pay.
  2. Register your interest for a PAYG account by completing our simple online form.
  3. Once you're set up, decide when you'd like to be billed e.g. every 30, 60 or 90 days.
  4. Submit your first meter reading on MyAccount or request that we take the reading for you.

Decide when you'd like to be billed

With PAYG, you can choose the period in which we bill you in order to suit your business needs. This can be anywhere between 30 days and 90 days following your previous invoice.

As a PAYG customer, you can generate your bill by either submitting your own meter readings or we can read your meter for you. If you submit your own meter reads then these must be supplied no later than 85 days following the date of your last invoice.

If you request that we read your meter for you then this may incur an additional cost and may also be subject to VAT. Please see further details under ‘Request a Castle Water meter reading’ below.

Submit your own meter readings

If you choose to submit your own meter readings, customers on our PAYG contract should submit a reading every 30, 60 or 90 days (and anywhere in between) based on the agreed billing cycle.

Request that we read your meter

As a PAYG customer, you can also request that we take a meter reading for you. Please note, this service does incur a fee depending on which wholesale area your premises is located.

What if I don’t submit a meter reading in time?

We must invoice you at least every 90 days. If you do not generate your own invoice within 85 days of your last invoice, we will raise an estimated bill for that 90-day period. You must pay this bill within 14 days.

PAYG pricing

With a PAYG account, the price you pay for your water and wastewater services will be no higher than the default charges set by Ofwat. You can find the price that relates to your premises in the relevant Scheme of Charges.

Payment terms

PAYG invoices must be paid within 14 days.

What if I miss a payment?

If you miss a payment, we will send you a reminder. This must be paid within 7 days.

If you fail to pay the outstanding amount within 7 days, we will ask you to pay a security deposit to cover your payment obligations to us. The deposit amount will be based on your estimated six-months consumption costs.

If you do not pay your reminder invoice and / or security deposit within 14 days of our request, you will no longer be eligible for our PAYG scheme. We will then continue to invoice you as per our standard billing arrangements.
