The long-standing tradition of the Saddleworth Whit Friday Brass Band Contests is a major calendar event in the north of England. It takes place across the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, Greater Manchester. Creating quite a spectacle, 122 bands journeyed between 11 separate contests this year giving rise to fierce comp for a range of individual and overall area prizes.
“It was exciting to compete with the Castle Water Brass Band for the second year. Castle Water is the UK’s largest independent water retailer, and supplies businesses, charities and public sector bodies throughout England. Customers in the north include hospitals, universities and local authorities in Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Having thoroughly enjoyed last year, we added a number of new pieces to our repertoire and were very excited to have the opportunity to play alongside some of the country’s leading brass bands once more.
“We are delighted to learn that we placed 18th overall in a field of 122 bands. That’s pretty impressive for our young band considering the very high calibre of the competition.
We now plan to build on this success and will practice hard in preparation for next year’s contests!”
Adam Reynolds, Director of Music
